- Listening outside when it’s showing. The snow muffles sounds on the air and makes a place much quieter than normal.
- Anywhere you can see a lot of stars
- Being the first one awake (or the last one to go to sleep) and just walking around looking at stuff.
- Mint tea after a long day.
Falling backwards into a large pile of “packing” snow.
For any of our more tropical friends, snow comes in many forms. The most coveted is the packing snow. It sticks to itself and is perfect for making snowballs and snowmen, and it crunches wonderfully when you step in it.
When you fall into it, it catches you somewhere between the air and the ground and creates a perfect mold around your body. It feels like you are floating in a chair custom sculpted for your body. (Assuming you’re wearing warm waterproof coverings. It’s not so relaxing when you’re cold and wet.)
Add to that the natural silence of the winter, close your eyes, and the world just disappears.
Got trapped in a cloud / storm on Alpe d’huez a couple years ago. Just behind the red marker is a steep ravine, but they were spaced too far so that in the middle of 2 you couldn’t see them.
It being so white at times that I couldn’t see my legs nor arms was a pretty surreal experience
Remembering that Nazis are people too. And that they will bleed when you punch them.
On a more serious note, not a lot right now to be honest.
Remembering to connect with nature I suppose. Breathing through the fear of fascism.
Might I suggest unplugging for a few days? You’re not wrong, but if it’s all you can think about, perhaps you need a break from news.
I hear you. It’s hard to escape the anxiety though. It’s not just the news. It’s watching myself be erased as a trans person, losing my health insurance etc.
Paying attention to the news is one way I try to know what’s coming down the pipe.
But yeah, I could use a break.
Sleeping.
