We’ve been working on adding (alpha) PieFed support to the Interstellar app for the past few weeks, and it has finally been released.

Keep in mind that the API is currently limited in its capabilities, and we were not able to implement all the features Interstellar provides; this is the case wherever you see a screen or pop-up message that says “Unimplemented” error. Additionally, the alpha API could easily change at any moment, so don’t expect it to work without issues.

If you’d like to try it out despite it being an “alpha” feature, then when you go to sign-in, enter preferred.social as the Instance Host. See this post (https://piefed.social/post/484755) if you’d like more information about that instance and general PieFed API info.

Oh, now I can’t comment from Piefed anymore.

I got “ClientException: Request failed with status 400: REQUEST: ('error”: " 429 Too Many Requests" when I tried to submit my comment.

Now I’m getting “type ‘Null’ is not a subtype of type 'String” in the comment area when opening the post.

        My original comment was:

Notifications don’t seem to work. I’m getting “UnimplementedError” when viewing them.

And the post body text is missing when I open a post. When I tap upvote, the post body text appears.

Not complaining, only pointing out some things I’ve noticed. I’m happy there’s a second app for Piefed in development.

I have no idea why you’d trigger the rate limiter by posting a comment, but it seems like you did.

Now I’m getting “type ‘Null’ is not a subtype of type 'String” in the comment area when opening the post.

Thank you, I’ll look into it. I’m seeing the same thing as well from my PieFed account.

Notifications don’t seem to work. I’m getting “UnimplementedError” when viewing them.

Yeah, that’s just one of those screens that doesn’t work yet. There’s just no API routes for notifications yet. I’ll certainly add support once PieFed has it though.

And the post body text is missing when I open a post. When I tap upvote, the post body text appears.

It’s possible this is an issue with the PieFed API, but I’ll certainly check this as well, just to make sure.

Not complaining, only pointing out some things I’ve noticed. I’m happy there’s a second app for Piefed in development.

No problem at all! The whole reason I’ve released it is so people can thoroughly test both the app and the API for bugs.

That would definitely help you give it a thorough look - I haven’t been able to even get the app to run for me since yesterday, but when I did look it was VERY much still alpha, and yet quite promising for all that:-).

I kinda like the PieFed web UI though… but, it does make the platform more welcoming to people that refuse to use a web browser for whatever reason and demand an app so, I guess I’m glad that Interstellar is doing this?

In addition to the Thunder app support as well, ofc!:-D

Lately, it just sits on the loading screen with the big icon and never goes past it, no matter how long I wait. Force closing and restarting the app doesn’t help. I checked the Google Play Store and there are no new versions. I have not tried restarting the device itself yet. Clearing the cache does not help.

Ah, but clearing all data does restore functionality. Until presumably it will break once again? I don’t know the trigger, but fwiw I only logged in as Guest to preferred.social. I did switch back and forth a few times to compare the look of Mbin vs. PieFed on it - perhaps that caused corruption in the app somewhere.

I’m sorry you experienced that. But thank you for reporting. I believe I was actually able to replicate the issue by doing just as you mentioned. I should be able to get it fixed.

I’m assuming you just installed the app, added the piefed guest account, then you started switching back and forth between kbin.earth and preferred.social? Because that was what I did to replicate it.

That was exactly what I did, yes. In particular I did not like the placement of the notification icons below everything, wasting so much space and making everything so vertical when there was seemingly still an enormous amount of space leftover in the row above it, but then realized that this was very likely due to modification of how things looked on Mbin, and sure enough that was the case.

Which is fine, it just means that specifically the component adding in PieFed support is still very much in alpha, as stated:-). Interstellar looks pretty good using Mbin! Very reminiscent of Thunder to me. The polish for PieFed support will come more slowly over time I’m sure.:-)

You probably only needed the facts here and not also the explanation of the thought process that led me to do that sequence of actions, but in case it helped, now you have both:-).

Alright, the issue is fixed and will be available whenever the next update comes out! Thanks again for giving info about the bug.

I know exactly what you mean about the notification controls using a lot of space in the comments. It definitely needs to be rearranged. Mbin doesn’t have notification controls for comments, as you can probably tell, so it was sort of overlooked when released. But hey, at least it works! It just doesn’t look great :)
