I’m a farmer in San Diego County. In fallbrook/ temecula, there’s a truck weigh station that’s full of ICE operatives near me. Today, they blocked off the entrance to the only road that leads to a bunch of farms, including mine. I personally have a family farm, but I know my neighbors and their employees, and they’re hard-working everyday people regardless of their immigration status.

To make a long story short, how do I legally fuck with ICE while they do a raid?

Edit: the only thing I can think of is recording and doing a verbal protest. I could try to share the footage with the local news. Given the current political climate, I’m not sure if they’d care. I don’t want to see the people I’ve existed next to dissappear.

It’s here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/MbUzWLDT73swafxf7?g_st=ac

If you know someone who works at Moon Farm Nurseries, fucking tell them RIGHT NOW to lay low. They’re compromised.

Edit 2: they took everyone. The fields up and down our road are empty. I couldn’t even get a picture because I had to drive past like nothing was happening. Fuck.

Edit 3: a couple of truckers pulled up with double wides and blocked the road. I can’t tell whoes side their on. Whish me luck.

Edit 4: I think mite have made a checkpoint for me. I think I’ll be fine, but I’m not sure. Live update.

I guess I got here too late, but in a case like this perhaps the most helpful thing you can do is call ahead and warn everyone “the migra are coming, the migra are coming!” like some kind of modern Paul Revere. That way, the legal citizens can be ready to stall and be unhelpful while anyone with reason to fear can scatter. And if someone is legal but brown they can grab the papers that prove they’re not supposed to be scooped up as well.

Oops, your tractor, or other large machinery just broke down at the narrowest part of the road. It’s unfortunate that it’ll take days, maybe weeks to fix, and noone can drive past in the interim.

If they can’t get their vehicles in, out back out, they’ll struggle to operate.

Courts have ruled that cops can damage property in the course of their duties with no accountability or compensation required, so they’d probably just bulldoze it out of the way and destroy it. And then insurance would say they don’t cover official acts of cops, and then the cops would send a bill for damaging their bulldozer.

There’s probably more fun and effective ways to go bankrupt obstructing ICE.

Fair point, so maybe take a view on whether they’ve turned up with heavy machinery or just kidnap cars. In the OP’s case they don’t have time to prep, so they’re going to have to play things as they are. If you’re in a situation like this and do have time, you could find better ways to be able to blockade the road as needed. The blockage doesn’t need to last very long, even delaying their entry by minutes might give more people time to escape. Blocking their way out slows this operation and the next one. Once people know they’re in the area they lose the element of surprise.

It’s a real shame when that happens. It’d be terribly unfortunate if they accidentally dropped a few rolls of barbed wire that they were transporting, and they sprang open and got tangled all over the road and verge.

There isn’t much you can do at raid time. Interference is a crime. What you can do, but it may still cause problems for you.

    1. Alert their locations as much as possible.
    2. Film them at a reasonable distance and use an app that syncs to cloud instantly.
    3. Report police stations, jails, and prisons as placed you believe could be harboring illegal immigrants.
    4. Speak non-English languages first around them.

Shit, I didn’t even think about a signal. I’m trying to get a recording device down there, but it’s a narrow road with no signal on the side of a freeway. I think they could arrest me for j walking. Fuck man.

Edit: I don’t think I can get anywhere close, god damn.

They likely wouldn’t arrest you, but law enforcement commonly confiscates cameras, so that’s why the cloud sync is important.

I’m saying I have no signal there. I can’t upload anything, sadly. I’m trying to figure out something, but I think it’s too late. They’ve left with several vehicles of people. I have to drive down there for updates, and then drive back to my property to connect to the wifi to upload this. Every time, they’re scrutinizing me.

Something you may want to consider is a cell signal booster, cell phones are a bit limited in the size of antenna and how much power they can transmit at because everything has to fit in a neat little rectangle.

But you can get a device to hook up to your car that will retransmit your signal at a higher power. With that you "might* be able to get a signal further out than you normally would.

It would be useful for stuff like this of course but probably also just in general if you’re in an area with spotty service.

I don’t have any particular brand recommendations or anything like that, I think WeBoost caught my eye as a pretty decent-looking option at first glance but I don’t know if they’re actually any good. They’re mostly a product I’m aware exists and I intend to look into more when I have some spare time and money because I camp and hike in areas with spotty reception a lot, but it’s pretty far down my to-do list, so you’re on your own for research right now.

They’re going to lie and say you were unlawfully obstructing them and they’ll file federal charges. I would put a cattle grate on your entrance so you can pull it out when they’re around the area.

Broadcast ICE’s location to others. While it may be too late, it’ll sound the alarm and others will have time to prepare. Be specific: Identify cars, people, plates. The more aware people are of ICE’s activities the better they can prepare.

be rich if you do this, when piolin did this back in the 90’s on his radio show they came after him hard and; if he hadn’t been rich enough to afford the finest lawyers; he would be in prison today.

So I was about to recommend the ACLU mobile justice app but I went to check if it was still working and it seems to be down. Reviews suggest it’s been offline for a while. So if anyone reading this had also downloaded it and was assuming it would be there for you, maybe double check that.on your device.

Film everything for a start. There are apps that automatically upload as you film so they can’t just grab your phone and delete it.

Can that synchronize as you film? Will your phone expose the temporary file to syncthing before the recording is over? Does it block anyone from deleting the file from the phone?

Good point, no it won’t. You’re probably better off with a live-stream and remote recording for that. I wouldn’t trust a commercial app run on a public cloud service to protect your videos.

They wanna block the road, help them! Make the road completely impassable behind them. And in front of them. And under them. Just dig a big hole and chuck them in there. Then help your neighbours by refilling the hole to repair the road.

n.b. this may fail at the “legally” part
