This comparison makes some questionnable choices. It puts the presence of a web client as green, when actually this breaks the thread model of end-to-end encryption.

they don’t want to do anything about federation or messenger intercompatibility.
Their reasoning is that they only trust themself to keep the meta data safe and so need you.
That’s not their reasoning. Their reasoning is that it’s much harder to evolve the protocol in a decentralized context than a centralized one. It’s not that they only trust themselves with your metadata, it’s that they can improve the protocol much faster in order to get rid of most metadata.
They have been able to deploy a ton of protocol updates with regards to minimizing the amount of metadata anyone has access to (including them), while other decentralized alternatives have essentially been stuck in limbo for a while:
On the other hand, Matrix, XMPP and email are very leaky with regards to metadata. I’m not going into email because that’s pretty documented, but here it is for matrix:
United Bullies of America.

Their campaign clip explicitly said that they were against « LGBT activism ».
Not even trying to hide behind excuses. They explicitly think that LGBT rights should be fought against.
Yeah, the greens had a risk of not getting 5% so it was much more worthwhile to vote for them.
Sorry, it looks like the link was lost when cross-posting. I updated the post
In France it’s legally a bike only if the electric assistance stops once you reach 25 km/h. Anything where the motor can go higher than that (or even something where the motor can push when you’re not pedaling) is considered to be a light scooter and therefore need a license plate and can’t go on bicycle paths.
I thinks it’s pretty fair. The only issue is that some sellers advertise those little scooters as electric bikes so some people use them without being aware they’re illegal.
Does System76 sell a single device with touch screens?
It’s not technical and more political.
Google is a surveillance company with a huge impact on web standards thanks to its insane market share. Apple on its side uses its forced monopoly to prevent websites from competing with its app store. Gecko depends on Mozilla that depends on google for 90% of its revenue, and is today a good “look we’re not a monopoly” excuse for google.
I don’t think people want a new engine because the current ones don’t work. They want a new engine because they want the web to be truly open.
It’s developedby Google?
They’ve never had more users.
And if you had spent 3 minutes looking at r/Signal or the support forum before they disabled SMS you would have seen how many people were confused by the feature.
You? I’m not the writer of the post…
Can you please explain what you mean?
That’s why I avoid relying on instances maintained by this type of people and instance gravitate around instances hosted by non-profits I know and trust.
Where I am in France there are multiple very friendly non-profits that are centered around Free software and how digital technologies affect our freedom, who’ve shown to be very open-minded and responsible.
All this drama happened on Mastodon. While user migration is a great feature to have for users, it won’t solve this kind of issues.
There’s no way to transfer accounts afaik
On lemmy for now there is not. But there is on Mastodon and having such a feature in lemmy is just a matter of time.
But that’s like, the case for pretty much every messenger out there, outside of self-hosting, which will not be done by 99.99% of the general population.
