1 year agoFrom what I’ve heard it’s not legally advisable in most countries for media to lable things as rape prior to the perpetrator being convicted of rape. Also I think the law commonly defines rape as forceful penetration, at least in the US. So it’s not necessarily the writer’s/publisher’s fault when the headlines don’t call it what it is.
I don’t think they can call it rape until after she’s been convicted of rape, unless they want to open themselves up to a lawsuit. Not sure if they could have said, “Allegedly raped,” or not, but I wouldn’t fault the writer or even the publisher for having to phrase it this way. I think their choice of headline was more likely motivated by legal pressures than any sort of bias against rape victims, male or female.
