Agreed! In my little online ecosystem, there’s been a number of stories of federal workers resisting, cities teaching people their rights to thwart ICE, etc. Since that may or may not make it out of certain bubbles, we should be boosting stories like that and sending them around so others don’t feel alone and do feel empowered to resist.
Just based on my initial understanding of the situation, it looks like pilot error on the part of the helicopter. So, Trump’s not wrong; he’s just an asshole, and him injecting himself into this is counterproductive. Conspiracy theories relating to this is just…stupid.
I don’t know why this is getting downvoted. It seems like an interesting concept for certain use cases, and it looks like it’s just a tiny team.
That’s actually an interesting point, and it dovetails with something else I read recently. The right has correctly diagnosed much of our society’s ills, but many are too ignorant or indoctrinated to identify the correct solution. Instead, many have fallen in league with the fascists because they’ve been duped. (That’s not to say that many on the right are just simply fascists and bad people because too many are.)
These warning signs have been manifest for decades at this point. The seeds were sown long ago, and now it is time to reap what we as a society have sown.
No. The United States does not have a king, emperor, or any other kind of monarch. As the Republicans are fond of saying: We are a republic. As a republic–specifically a democratic republic–no one person is above the law. No one in this country is so mighty, so powerful that he can usurp the rights of another or perform actions that would land another in prison.
We have not lived up to the promise of our republic. Those who seek to benefit from that flaw and those who look to exacerbate that flaw are enemies of liberty and should be treated as such.
Good. Don’t do the fascists’ job for them. Be like Phyllis Fong and the others in the government who are resisting this. Every second they are forced to force people out and defend their policies and actions is a second they aren’t acting against vulnerable people.
Hell yeah! This is great! I’m glad I’m not the only one sharing it around to friends and neighbors. True resistance is not the flashy stuff; it’s a whole of society approach to stop fascists in their tracks. True resistance is the sum total of small acts to inconvenience and impede a fascist.
It’s not the most practical thing in the universe, but I have a small VPS that I host my email on for myself and a couple others (5 addresses in total). It’s a bit of a pain to set up, but once it’s working, it is really nice to have that kind of control.
That’s sad. It was really disheartening to see the amount of preemptive cooperation.
The sad thing that this was not Trump; he just signed the EO. He probably doesn’t even know this lesson exists. This was some mid-level officer trying to hew to the EO and a memo from the Acting Secretary of the Air Force. The fact that it was this fast shows how many people all over the government are willing to comply with these immoral orders.
Honestly, in like 40-50 years, I imagine that “red hat” will be a term with a similar connotation. We’re on a very dark path.

There’s also PeerTube, the Fediverse counterpart to YouTube. Unfortunately, while there’s some good stuff you can find (and some re-uploads of YouTube), there’s just not as much content. I’d imagine the userbase is pretty small, too.
I use a cheap VPS to host my email server. It’s a bit easier than running it solely at home, but there’s a lot of annoying work to “verify” yourself. Once you get your DNS records good, you shouldn’t be blocked after that (unlike a home server). It only costs me $5/month plus the domain, which I think is money well spent. Doing the admin work to make sure I’m secure still needs to happen, but I don’t mind that work and find it fun.

Side note-One of my favorite things to do is ask people what their use case for using AI is, and watch them sputter out “uh…emails and productivity and things.”
Except this is a state case. Unless he also has the Supreme Court Court of Appeals of the State of New York under his control…he’s going to have a rough road ahead I think.
The truly unfortunate part is that this may be the only conviction we get. The documents case is being destroyed by the judge, and SCOTUS is likely going to tank the January 6th case.
