Russia currently has the upper hand sadly, but if Zelenskyy trades 30 day pause (appearance of victory for Trump and a short reprieve for UKR) for resuming intel sharing and some US aid that may be a net win for UKR. Really depends on what comes along with the deal - what has UKR agreed to give up to get this ceasefire?

There’s also the fact that that money isn’t strictly money “wasted” - you can effectively double dip by using the funds to buy domestic or allied materials, essentially just circulating the money around your economy and creating defense-related jobs. $10 a day child care was pretty good. I’m a fan of the dental coverage too. The carbon tax actually reduced our emissions for the first time and was overall a net financial benefit for most Canadians.
He wasn’t amazing but he was not nearly the washout people act like he is.
Keep in mind he’s also making sure to publicly put the ball in Trump’s court regarding maintaining the relationship - especially obvious with his remark about “well of course they wouldn’t want to side with Russia”. Expressing optimism and openness publicly while maybe have reservations privately strikes me as a shrewd political stance.

Isolated economies perform worse in the long run, usually by a lot. Fair and open trade is almost always a net benefit for both parties. What Canada needs is a diverse portfolio of trading partners, not 70% of our exports going to the US.

Only thing I’d say (as a cyclist) is that “skill issue” is not a great reply for all cases. My city swings from +40 to -40 and it’s not uncommon to see wind chills down below -50. Winter cycling is not always viable, which is why a robust transit network needs to include a variety of options.
