Oh, the choices are grim! Oh, the choices are bad! The choices we have are just terribly sad! The rich and the mighty, they sit and they scheme, But fixing the mess? Oh, that’s just a dream!

But wait! Do not sulk! Do not sigh! Do not stew! There’s plenty, oh plenty, oh plenty to do!

We’ll care for the land! We’ll stand side by side! We’ll not let the fascists take us for a ride! We’ll make the elite shake and shiver with fear— Oh, change can be coming, and change can start here!

Canada needs to do what the USA should have done: use the election to keep the fascists out for now, while continuing to organize a real socialist and environmentalist movement from the ground up. You can’t fix the situation wholly within FPTP elections, but you can use them to avoid the worst possible damage while you work on solutions.

The one thing that has me optimistic about Carney is that as an outsider to politics up until recently, he is more likely than most politicians to have an ear open for people’s concerns.

So after the election, keep up the pressure to bring grassroots messages to our government, and real change could conceivably happen. Including electoral reform.
