As far as I can see Lemmy supports hidden communities. But my community on lemme.ee only supports visibility public or local.

I would like to set it to hidden, to avoid its posts appearing in the feeds of users who aren’t subscribed.

The reason is to avoid bothering users with my community posts which they probably don’t want to see. A post already got a downvote from a user not in my community, probably because they didn’t want to see such things in their feed.

Is it possible to make a community hidden from unsubscribed users’ feeds on lemme.ee?

only admins can set communities to hidden currently. this is also not exposed via lemmy-ui, it has to be done via API.

I don’t think that’s the case. Here at feddit.nl (version 0.19.10, latest) I can set the visibility of a community only to “Public” and “Local Only”, too. There seems to be an option for instance admins to hide certain communities from all, though.

This is really quite unfortunate. I would say it’s a bit rude to downvote posts from communities you’re not a member of. Really shouldn’t users be blocking the community from appearing in their feed?

I may take this up with the Lemmy developers. I think only being able to vote on posts in communities you’re subscribed to would be an improvement. Wouldn’t it?

Yes, the setting to enable votes in a community only for subscribers will be shipped with version 1.0 sometimes this fall probably
