Summary

The Wall Street Journal criticized Trump’s new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China as “the dumbest trade war in history.”

Trump imposed a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports and 10% on Chinese goods, citing national security concerns.

Critics, including economists and business leaders, warn of higher prices and economic harm, with estimates showing a $1,000–$1,200 annual hit to US households.

Canada, Mexico, and China announced retaliatory measures. Trump defended his policy, while critics argue it will worsen inflation and disrupt key supply chains.

That $1000 - $1200 annual hit almost certainly doesn’t take into account that every corp is going to use it as an excuse to raise prices for everything across the board. Who thinks we’re only gonna pay the minimum required to offset tarrifs? It’ll be another year of record profits.
