Idk. Doesn’t Deepseek motivate a lot of other companies to try to do something similar? They might end up selling more

Yes, competition is good, but these ball garglers only want to make competition illegal so they can capitalize on monopoly.

Absolutely. So much of the libertarian argument for capitalist competition fall apart when faced with the reality of monopolies and oligopolies that control the markets. It’s honestly such a farcical ideology.

That’s a nice straw man you’ve got there. Where did discussion about libertarianism come from? Are you implying that Trump is somehow libertarian (that joker was booed relentlessly at the LP convention) or that the US is in any way libertarian?

The libertarian argument is that antitrust exists to fix problems the government itself created.

For example, why does Nvidia dominate AI. It’s not because they bought all competition, AMD and Intel exist. It’s not because their hardware is better, AMD and Intel have access to the same fabs. The main reason is CUDA, Nvidia’s GPU compute API, which is protected by copyright, as in, government protectionism. Many libertarians don’t believe in IP law, figuring laws against fraud are sufficient, and those that do think it should exist want dramatically shorter protections (e.g. 5 years for patents, 10 for copyright). And then there’s the argument of whether copyright should even apply to APIs like CUDA, and many libertarians would say no. If AMD and Intel could create CUDA compatible devices, Nvidia wouldn’t have nearly the lead it does.

Also, a proper libertarian government would have so little overlap with the economy that a CEO visiting the White House wouldn’t really be a thing because there’s nothing to gain from that visit. Presidents shouldn’t be selectively tarriffing products, in fact that should be illegal since it’s direct market manipulation. If we do tariffs, they should be broad impacting all imports from all countries. The only selective tariffs that should exist would be from something like a carbon tax, where products are forced to pay for pollution generated in their production.

I really don’t see what libertarianism has to do with this story (neither Jensen Huang or Donald Trump are anywhere near libertarian), but I’m happy to have a discussion about it.

You have a point, nvidia did make the 4090D which was a slightly cut-down 4090 to get over the sanctions and continue selling to china.

The separation of corporation and state is as important as church and state. This flaw has never been exploited so severely, but a failure of any truly patriot legislators to see the importance of quickly working to build systematic protections against this is unforgivable.

sure nvidia is being a shitty and greedy public corp capitalizing on a massive tech bubble… stock price has to go up forever. nothing surprising here…

but jensen huang has been at the helm of nvidia for a long time the entire existence of nvidia and is undeniably a smart MF’er… and i’m not even some kind of nvidia fanboy.

AMD for life… and dr. lisa su is even smarter than cousin jensen. i just hope she doesn’t come out as a trump bootlicker as well

As a linux guy i’ve been putting my money on AMD, but we have to be realistic. If AMD’s board/investors demand Lisa suck the orange oaf’s dick, she’ll be on her knees before him.

IMO the only smart capitalist is Gabe. His consumers would murder for him. But Nvidia just needs someone with comparable and cheaper GPUs to come along and their toast. Thats why they captured the market and then locked their shit up after everyone was using it and designing for it.

Don’t think so there have been times in the past where AMD has been as good and even better the Nvidia. And it didn’t move the needle much. There might have been game issues with AMD then I can’t remember

100%, nvidia doesnt have its own fabs, and I dont think anyone wants to use intels fabs for gpus, as it would have been a regression in performance. if the tariffs last for Trumps entire presidency, pricing for nvidia products,. especially since they have huge interest in breaking into the mainstream arm audience down the line, is in danger.

the problem most competitors that arent nvidia is that they do not have the devloper ecosystem that N idia has entrenched. even the recently released deep seek ai, still fundamentally uses nvidia based code.
