intellectual pursuits combined with recent-ish DNA test revealed to me that i’m from a very recently dead culture (american yaqui & tarahumara) whose very few aware decedents have been fighting tooth-and-nail to re-cultivate it by patterning themselves after their nearest cousins (mexican yaqui & tarahumara) along with a recent recognition from the american government for the pascua reservation in arizona.

they were literally wiped out by the pogroms carried out by colonial settlers in the american southwestern united states during the 19th and early 20th centuries and it was merely the imaginary line on the map called the mexican border that allowed anything from the culture to survive at all.

if it weren’t for people who rejected colonialist narrative of indigenous people happily becoming mestizos (or americans with Cherokee princess great grandma’s); there would be nothing but a fringe belief and, if it weren’t for DNA tests that heavily bolsters it, that fringe belief would continue to wane into nothingness.

you’d think that 2/3rds of your DNA being tied to a group of people and their genocide occurring less than 2 generations ago would ensure that something of that cultural inheritance would survive, but I’m living & breathing proof that the colonial narrative is MUCH more powerful than any heritage as the older generations of my family continue to strenuously reject both the science and the lore of their true roots.

both the basque and the catalonians have sought independence and were brutally pushed down by the conservative governments of the very recent past. the current left leaning government has made concessions to keep them on board; but the voting trends for the last 15 years makes it crystal clear that the conservatives will be in power again and both the catalonians and basque are well aware that the the peace will expire in the next election.

my idle time is the 10/15 mins between tasks and i retain less than 5% of anything i read within 15 minutes of reading it.

i’ve seen others try, but the fediverse lacks reddit’s niche groups so the content seems to get ignored by the general/generic loving fediverse crowd.

i’ve run into people who did this and i wished for deodorant every single time.

Anyone who is not keeping some cash on the side to buy perfectly good assets (like gold) at bargin prices in the next year or so is crazy.

my multinational employer thought that they could do that since they one of the biggest players in the industry so they figured they can force return to the office and they could just replace everyone who left as a result. fast forward a year and they’ve had to outsource hiring to bolster their own recruitment because the referrals they got were in such high demand that they had to compete with other major industry players to hire them and they had to double down on finding people through traditional means.

i know it’s not like that in all industries; but that ones that stress or rely on experience are really hurting to find people like this because the social circles of ones with that experience are others with similar experience and those circles are tiny.

i’ve applied to this company several times in the past and got auto rejected; it wasn’t until the attrition got so bad that they deigned to give me the time of day.
