  • Looking at his history I’m a bit confused. I do see one instance where he was apparently accused of posting a Russian misinformation site and banned for it, although playing devils advocate I could see that as a genuine mistake as well. Looking at the rest of his history nothing really jumps out at me as being that unusual. Most of the articles do seem to have a slightly anti-European bent to them, and I did see one exchange that seemed slightly anti-Ukraine, but I’m not really seeing anything else that looks like actual propaganda.

It seems like a tough call to make. On the one hand propaganda works best when it’s subtle so the fact nothing jumps out is somewhat expected, but on the other hand we don’t want to start witch trials and start branding people as agents with only really flimsy evidence. McCarthyism was a terrible point in US history and did far more harm than any possible good and I’d hate to see something like that happen again. Equally though Russia is known for spreading propaganda on social media though, and there is danger there.

  • He still has over three years left in this term, why the fuck is he already talking about trying for a third? Particularly when there are already so many ways for him to fuck this up so badly he’d never even win a primary let alone a general election.

My best guess is that he’s already out of ideas for things to do that his base would support so he’s floating a third term as a distraction from the ongoing trash fire that his brand new second term is already turning into.

  • Possible but it would be an incredibly risky move on Trump’s part as nukes are a very touchy subject and frankly Trump doesn’t have either the brains nor the charisma to pull it off. He’s as likely to make things worse and unite the rest of the world against Russia (including China who won’t want to see nukes deployed in essentially their backyard) as he is to help in a meaningful fashion. Putin knows how limited a tool Trump is and wouldn’t want to risk that. Trump is essentially useless for international purposes and limited to only domestic affairs.

Despite his claims he is not and never has been a negotiator, he only ever “wins” when his opponents are at an overwhelming disadvantage. It’s why he prefers working with companies on the verge of bankruptcy because they’re desperate and easier to push around.

As for deploying nuclear weapons, not only would that unit the entire world against the US, it would ignite the biggest shit storm within the US in its entire history, assuming the military even went along with it in the first place. If anything was going to convince the US military to stage a coup against Trump, giving the order to nuke a recent ally in a war the US is only tangentially connected to would.

  • He questioned on social media why the Pentagon chief would have a Russian email account, though he did not confirm whether it was genuine or fabricated.

So, in short someone alleged that he has an email address at mail.ru but nobody has actually verified if that’s actually true or utter bullshit.

This is such a click bait-y non-story. Like I would not be surprised at all if it was true, and if it was this would be a pretty massive deal that raises a lot of questions (plus even if true there could still be reasonable explanations), but without verification this is nothing at all. I could just as easily claim I have photos of Trump fellating Putin and it would be just as big a story as this

  • Fluoride in toothpaste does help as well but it only does so much, and yes some toothpaste brands also don’t include fluoride. To get the most out of fluoridated toothpaste you need to pair it with a better diet. Most Americans eat a diet that’s incredibly heavy in sugars and carbs as compared to Europe. That’s part of the reason why many European countries found little benefit to adding fluoride to their drinking water, their rates of tooth decay were already significantly less than in the US due mostly to dietary differences.

  • There are two ways to prevent tooth decay. First is the easy way which is to put fluoride in the drinking water. It’s easy and protects everyone, but particularly the poorer segments of the population that might struggle with things like preventative dentist appointments.

The second way is the hard way which is to modify your diet to avoid foods high in sugars and carbs and to prefer more proteins and fiber. This is the approach some European countries take.

If you do neither you will get significantly increased rates of tooth decay.

  • Save time and just classify them all as Trumpgate. Basically spans the entirety of 2016 to 2028 (and if we’re in the worst possible timeline long after that as well). Trump was already one of the worst presidents in recent memory, but now he’s shooting for the worst of all time. He’s going to go down as the president that either destroyed the US or nearly did. At minimum I’m expecting him to be remembered as the cause of the second great depression as well as a significant contributor to instability and war in Europe and Asia (I would include the middle east as well, but that’s pretty much business as usual there).

  • Teams meetings aren’t really that much worse than Zoom, it’s mostly minor gripes, although there are quite a few of those. The Teams chat client on the other hand is an absolute garbage fire that’s significantly worse than Slack, Discord, or pretty much anything up to and arguably including IRC.

An organization , “team”, channel, and chat are confusing as hell, that breakdown does not in any way align with the way communication works in a large organization. Why is there so little configuration available for notification settings? Why can’t I completely silence or ignore a “team”, channel, or chat? Why do I not receive notifications half the time for the things I actually want to be notified about? Why aren’t there threads or at least a sensible and easy to follow “reply to” option? Why can’t anyone seem to agree on the correct way to organize things? Half our groups are creating gigantic “teams” that include half the company, while the other half are creating shared channels nobody knows about. Both options suck.

  • Well it’s kind of both. While I agree that is a goal it’s ultimately about hoarding wealth to them. Power is wealth and wealth is power. The only reason they care about the peasants is because control over them ensures they can continue to harvest wealth and that nobody can become wealthier. Their goal isn’t any specific amount of wealth but rather they treat it as a game they’re competing in. They don’t care if they have a million dollars or a hundred trillion as long as nobody else has more.

Everything they do is in service to acquiring more wealth for themselves and denying wealth to others including the accumulation of power. They’ll spend money to acquire power but only if that power then allows for the accumulation of more money. That’s their current play with the US government. They’re destroying the US in order to carve it up and add it to their personal hoard of wealth.

  • Different groups, different motivations, but they’re headed in the same direction more or less so they’re working together. Trump is working to install himself as a dictator under orders from Putin. He wants to be for the US what Lukashenko is for Belarus. Ultimately he’ll be Putin’s puppet but he’ll largely have free reign within the US which is the only thing he cares about. He’s destroying all the US soft power and doing everything he can to turn all the US allies against it. Domestically he’s painting targets on the backs of as many minorities as he can in order to keep the useful idiots that elected him distracted.

Musk meanwhile is working to establish an oligarchy and to steal or destroy as much of the US government as he can manage. Ultimately his goals are fairly transparent as he’s motivated entirely by naked greed. Since his efforts hurt US foreign relations as much as the domestic situation he’s a useful tool to Trump in his efforts to neuter the US for Putin.

Then you’ve got the Christian nationalists in the GOP that don’t really care about what’s going on as long as they’re allowed to trample all over the first amendment and declare Christianity as the official US religion with all the associated bigotry and discrimination. Since that plays to Trump’s efforts to distract his supporters he’s perfectly fine with it, but likely keeping a close eye on that group lest any of them think about usurping his crown, particularly when he still hasn’t really gotten to go full dictator yet.

  • You’re assuming a single rational actor. The current US government is neither rational nor unified in policy. Whether someone gets in or not is down to the whims of individual ICE agents and whether they’re detained or not is down to the whims of individual ICE agents, so you get one reasonable guy who says “sure, come on in”, and then you get one xenophobe who says “need to get all these damn foreigners out of our country” and then you have this situation.

Normally you have a sane leadership setting and enforcing uniform policies. The current leadership is entirely focused on generating sound bites and demolishing everything within reach. Thus individual agents have been handed almost complete authority with almost no oversight.
