Yeah yeah, I know this is a meme community but I assume you’re here like me because you identify.

    So try this:

Step #1: Disconnect away from brainrot and “the algorithm” (few hrs or a few days - completely disconnecting takes about a week) so the cursed feeling of “I should be doing something but I’m not and I feel bad” goes away.

Step #2: Rejuvenate: do an activity that will actually make you physically and mentally healthier. Go outside, learn something, be social, accomplish something, write something, etc. You know you, so do that thing…

After you get into step 2 can you’ll begin to recharge so you can deal with stuff again.

  • Access to the domestic American market is what made most of these guys billionaires in the first place.

But the laws don’t require them to return the favor.

A sensible solution would be to find a way to make the loopholes more expensive than returning some of those spoils in the form of some kind of tax.

Ideally that tax would create a positive feedback loop such as free higher education or other benefits to humanity that would continue to make the USA a better place to live and survive.

If the tax is too high or is used in a way that seems frivolous to the rich they will fight it so hard that it could never succeed.

I know we’re in a meme community but this did get me thinking… Not only is the Earth spinning but it’s also in an orbit around the Sun which is also orbiting around the center of the Milky Way which is moving through space relative to other galaxies and so on.

Do we have enough information to calculate a position in space in the future for Earth without a fixed reference other than current point?

Technology has always been pushing people of average skill to move forward and find new things. The effort to stop AI from coming after this medium are already lost. Now would not be a great time to bank on an entire career based of drawing art in a style that AI can do. But perhaps there is a form of art that AI can not soon replicate.

There will always be a market for truly expert craftspeople and artists, however, and art as a hobby or personal interest will never cease.

Edit: the reaction is a bit fascinating to me and I’m trying to understand. The ATM machine reduced our need for bank tellers. The automatic phone switching network reduced our need for phone operators. E-commerce reduced the need for cashiers. The advent of computers reduced the need for slide rule operators. You can view this as all bad but by being on an internet forum you’re benefitting directly from people having been freed from these jobs and able to pursue other less replaceable jobs.

  • It’s a difficult problem to sum up because there are so many reasons this is happening, and I don’t think it’s all malicious.

At the core there is a general disrespect for any authority in American culture and it’s easy to believe stories that a government-mandated medical intervention is somehow not as safe as they say.

It doesn’t help that there have been government programs in the past that were harmful and the knowledge was only made public after it was too late. Very few people believe the government has the people’s best interest in mind.

Individuals are only capable of understanding a very limited amount at one time, and rely on their tribe to inform them of almost everything else. These days there’s a tsunami of information that is impossible to process completely. So it’s just human nature to trust a small selection of sources and does usually offer a survival advantage.

So it’s not hard to see how smart people can fall for misinformation especially when they are inclined to doubt authority.
