  • So… He’s evil. He’s supposed to be a represent of the country at some level. He should attempt to live up to the ideals of a democratic republic. He should take his role as a leader of the whole populace, not just some of it.

These statements are not jokes, they are statements of his role as a leader. They hold weight and power of his office. Claiming his officer’s power is a joke about hurting people demonstrates what he wants to use the power for. He feels the power of the state should be used extrajudicially against citizens of his nation. That’s evil.

  • There’s plenty of story behind it. The key parts are that I’ve been visiting Germany off and on for 30 years now, ever since high school. I like the feel of the cities and the culture. Their engineering schools have room for people with my skills and interests (I’m more engineer than academic).

I didn’t limit myself to Germany. I’ve applied and interviewed across Europe, though it mostly centered around Germany. I had a good offer in Finland last year that I couldn’t get the ex wife to let me take the kids to.

Was it difficult? Plenty of work to keep applying, but there’s work to be had.

Germany may have real concerns about immigration, but the country needs skilled people, and just plain and hard workers, to fill roles. The alternative is to have major economic collapse, so the government is opening doors even if the populace isn’t always totally on board.

  • My city votes down building a tram. A big part of the argument was how ugly the overhead wire would be.

Based upon my experiences, it’s not the overhead wire that makes a city ugly. It’s horrible parking lots we have instead of buildings, but apparently the parking lots are a-ok for the people here. We even gave a parking garage official historical building status!

They did vote in a BRT line. It is currently planned to be started in… 2030.
