  • I’ll cop to not having read the article and I’ll say I might, but I can think of some pretty good ones. It’s so children and teenagers can tell people when something bad is happening to them. Like being in a child marriage. Or being abused. Or being shot at in school. Or when their community is being preyed upon. Or when they’re in a cult. Or when they’re kidnapped and they have a phone. Or when they need to advocate for themselves against policy that chiefly affects them. Or when they’re afraid something is happening to their friends. Or when they’re suicidal. Or when they’re lost. I could probably come up with a hundred of these. The thing is that children and teens are half-finished people and we afford people certain rights. So we need to decide if we’d rather treat kids as human or as another group of pawns to control. I loathe this debate.

  • I’m not saying the French haven’t achieved great things with fire but I am begging people on Lemmy or Reddit or Bluesky or whatever to watch the fuck out for agitators trying to push the mass toward a violent/riotous state. You do not want to push the admin to sick dogs on you and declare martial law purely because of ~~ vibes ~~.

    Corollary;

    a) We all know that if Fox can reasonably photoshop your demonstration to look bad, admin has what it needs. This isn’t a counterargument.

    b) We all know things are really fucking bad. I don’t have a good answer.

    c) Just remember the French got their reputation over the course of centuries after the Terror. Americans don’t have that historical baggage.

Just don’t get got by psyops, people. Tell Umbrella Man to fuck off and start filming anyone trying to change the tenor of your event.

Perhaps the future will make my apparent timidity look foolish but nevertheless there is a concerted effort going on in these comments to ratfuck this particular movement’s goals and methods.

  • Victories in the Middle East

I’m honestly not sure what this refers to in recent memory unless you’re talking about the initial battlefield victories, executing Hussein, killing Bin Laden, or dropping MOAB to make ourselves feel better. We fled Afghanistan with our tails between our leg, left a power vacuum in our wake and the people to be ruled by their theocrats. It was godawful and we lost stupendously more than we gained at least in the public sector. Nice agitprop though I guess.

  • I’d like to second this sentiment… I know that there’s one man who understands the fear I’m feeling, the building rage and panic. He posts on my instance and his name is Pete. Its a little thing but it makes me feel less alone.

Might edit this post with some music I’ve been using to cope later. I just wanted to let you know I, we, see you.

Here ya go. I got into a game with a soundtrack by an infamous breakbeat producer called Sewerslvt and what I took away from reading about her career is that her oeuvre hinges a lot on suicidality, loss, and shock. This track is called Jvnko Loves You and references one of the most brutal, graphic stories of murder I’ve ever come across and… it makes me want to live because the victim in question didn’t get to, which I think is what the artist was going for.

More generally, the music of Death Grips helped me internalize that spite can be a vile humor that pushes us to live and that hate, rage, and nihilism are core parts of our humanity that hurt as much to deny as they do to embrace. Many of their songs are about how hard it is to choose to live and many of their lyrics have stuck with me. Beware - an audio formatted raison d’etre. On GP - a screed about choosing to live for others. Come Up and Get Me - Self explanatory.

These are angry and/or intense songs and thoughts that I hope won’t be triggering for you, please don’t listen if they are. I know you DID say anger wasn’t your cup of tea, sorry. Its not ecstasy, but I’m in a somewhat similar boat of coming off of being a daily weed smoker during one of the worst times I can imagine for ANYONE to kick ANYTHING, whether it’s opiates or gummy bears. My sympathies. I’d like to also add a couple of more beautiful, serene tracks, to counterbalance the bleak tracks above.

Sufjan Stevens - I Want to Be Well

    Zoe - Luna

    Anoraak - We Lost

    Sigur Ros - Glosoli

  • Cruelty Squad (Finland) - Madness inducing immersive sim and tactical shooter set in a biopunk ultra-capitalist dystopia where death itself has been conquered and commodified. You are a wageslave assassin for the 1%. Raise your networth, diversify your portfolio, kill God.

Peripeteia (Poland) - Anime-influenced immersive sim and tactical shooter set in a 3d printed megalopolis in post-nuclear Poland. You are an amnesiac cyborg questing to find your origins, caught between fascist Pols and insurgent Russians. Has an incredible soundtrack. Early Access and still quite rough around the edges but very impressive.
