Thanks for posting her faculty page, I hope anyone who feels conflicted about the obituary reads it! It sounds like the obituary author knew her well and wrote from a place of mutual understanding and respect.
The 2000 long-form piece and yesterday’s obituary posted by OP are written by the same person, Michael Hiltzik

Got thirsty on the trip home and drank a third of the Sriracha and most of the soy sauce? We’ve all been there
Instead of just adding whole changed files, it starts an interactive mode where it shows every hunk of diffs one by one, and asks you to input yes or no for each change. Very helpful for doing your own mini code review or sanity check before you even commit.

Keep doing it because it’s fun (had an unexpected amusing result, which is the basis of fun, really)
Lol funnily I’m the exact opposite. Apple’s “cupless” ear buds have never stayed in my ears, from the early iPod ones to airpods. I put them in and they’re just completely loose and immediately fall out if I turn my head.

My viewing history is disabled, so maybe pseudo-porn is just the default
This is just untrue. Shorts defaults to the same for me as a gay man who has never clicked on a single one of them.

I do think it’s pretty rude but we don’t actually know that’s a direct quote, it might just be how the tweeter interpreted what they asked. If those actually are the words she used, then yes that’s inexcusable, but given twitter, I think that’s unlikely.
“Focus” and “streamline” are usually MBA buzzwords to describe layoffs. Hopefully not the case but sounds rough.
Most people I know who read a lot use StoryGraph, and mostly for personal tracking, not as a social app.
