  • He doesn’t know a lot of things.

    • He doesn’t know how tariffs work
    • He doesn’t understand the difference between a budget deficit and the national debt.
    • He doesn’t understand trade deficits
    • He doesn’t understand how inflation works.
    • He doesn’t understand how supply chains work.
    • He doesn’t understand how international treaties work.
    • He doesn’t understand geopolitics.
    • He doesn’t understand the concept of “soft power”.
    • He believes that he is the de-facto leader of the rest of the world.
    • He thinks that he can just make proclamations and the rest of the world will just roll over and obey.

And I’m not making up a list to just mock Trump. If I were doing that, I’d add things like “He does not know how to sexually pleasure a woman” and “He does not know what an appropriate amount of spray-tan is.” That is just the beginning of a long list of concepts that a seasoned politician needs to have mastered but Trump just objectively doesn’t understand. And he’s the one in charge now.

And I’m saying he doesn’t understand it in the way that an a chimp will still try to cram a square peg into a round hole because they do not grasp concepts like “Square”, “Circle”, or the difference between them.

  • Normally, I’d say something like “isn’t this basically what Trump promised to save everybody from, and why voters voted Biden out of office?”

But I can’t do that here. Because Trump actively campaigned on making economic matters worse. Elon Musk said years of “hardship” on poor people was the plan. And the voters said “Yes, I would like more of that because the solution to the economic hardship I’m already going through is even more economic hardship!”. Because I guess the economic hardship that Trump was promising was only supposed to affect “them”.

And we all know what I mean when I say “them”.

And now reality is hitting. Something something leopards, something something faces…

But I’m sure as far as they’re concerned, it’s all Biden’s fault.

  • “The 2020 election was safe, secure, free, and fair. Our elections are more secure than any time in our country’s history. But they are also so insecure that Trump’s team manipulated millions of votes in swing states nationwide without being detected, caught, or leaving a trace. But we’ll have them fixed by 2028 so the election will be totes fair and secure this time. For realz. Trust us.”

This is the line of bullshit that people who believe this are going to try to pass off on the American people. All this is going to accomplish is making Democrats seem like whiny hypocrites who have been saying that our elections are legitimate, safe, and secure for the past four years and then pulls an about-face the minute they lose an election. You are telling people that our elections are about as real as a professional wrestling match, with the winner pre-determined by whatever hackers infiltrate the most voting systems. You are telling the American people that our elections are so insecure that Donald Fucking Trump and his team can change the outcome with impunity. And then you’re also going to tell them that we’ll have all these problems fixed by 2028 despite the Democrats having exactly zero power to change a damn thing.

    Good luck with that.

It’s very simple. Donald Trump has a cult following of literally millions of people who care about absolutely nothing but Donald Trump. It should not be a surprise that those followers showed up in droves to vote for Trump and only Trump because they care about Trump and only Trump. Their goal was to get Trump back into office. Everything else was superfluous. They showed up in Minnesota and North Carolina and Pennsylvania where their votes actually mattered, and stayed home in California and Kentucky and Massachusetts and Arkansas because those states were already won or lost and their vote wasn’t needed. And they only voted for Trump because all they care about is Trump.

Desperately going down this path is little more than Democrats looking for an excuse why they lost this election that doesn’t involve blaming themselves. Fact of the matter is that literally every single state went pretty hard to the right in this election. You can’t blame states like California and New Jersey having results that looked almost competitive on what was or wasn’t happening in Pennsylvania or Minnesota. Democrats lost, and that’s all there is to it.

Take a district’s attendance roll (whatever you want to call it. The count of people who physically showed up to vote.) Then compare that to the number of ballots cast in that district on election day. Then do the same with mail-ins. If those two numbers are equal, then there’s your answer: A bunch of Trump voters just decided to show up and vote for only Trump. How many of them did that or why they did is completely irrelevant. They did. I assume that this is a very basic check that they do on election day before even sending the results. Do the number of ballots cast equal the number of people that showed up? I’m assuming that Harris’ team is competent enough to look into this, and I assume that they’d have been all over this the minute the first Republican backwoods town reported even the slightest irregularity. If not, that’s a colossal failure on the part of her and her team and she deserves to lose anyway.

There is absolutely no good option going down this path. The best you’d be able to get to is to say that our elections are easily manipulated by even the dumbest people on the planet and since those people are in charge now, there’s no reason to believe 2028 will be any different. You are basically throwing away any faith we should have in our election system just to score a hit of copium.

Donald Trump won. Period. Full Stop. I don’t like it any more than anybody else here does, but I’m not willing to throw faith in our election system out the window just because I don’t like the results. That’s what Donald Trump did in 2020.

  • Again, assuming LPR software has even the most basic database functionality, the whole process can be entirely automated and void of human interaction at all once the plate is flagged. The biggest thing would be if they got a hit saying that NY plate 123-ABC is currently on I-95, would the state troopers bother heading out to pull him over? And if you’re the doctor, would you want to risk your own freedom taking the chance? And if the answer to that is no, then you’re essentially trapping yourself in your own state, or even your own area if you’re in a purple state where some counties are more willing to cooperate than others. And to the GOP, that in and of itself would be just fine. They’d still essentially win.

  • Pretty much, yeah.

Saying they’re going to punish women for abortions is a bridge too far even for some (key word: some) Republicans. All they care about is getting around the public relations headache that would come with penalizing pregnant women. Saying that pregnant women will not be penalized for obtaining these pills so long as they obtained them during a full moon on a Saturday between 3:00 and 3:00:01 AM in years where the final digit is even means that they can technically say that there are scenarios where pregnant women will not be penalized, and that technicality is all they care about. The fact that it would never, ever happen in a real world situation is irrelevant. It could. And to them, that’s all that matters.

  • The fun part of that becomes, how will they know? Constant license plate tracking through cameras and subsequent information sharing across state PDs to catch, what in reality, is a political crime, and only illegal for brownie points with the electorate, or will they rely on more pointed surveillance waiting for the opportunity?

This actually could be done pathetically easily.

Just set up an alert in the license plate reader’s software to look for a NY plate 123-ABC, then just sit back and wait. Once the doctor’s car drives down a highway that triggers these readers off, it becomes pretty easy to track his movements. Then pull him over for illegally tinted windows or something and voila. As long as the software is capable of comparing the plate to a list of wanted plates in a database and sending out alerts when it finds one, which should be functionality included in even the most basic software, the problem wouldn’t be dedicating resources to finding him. It would just be a matter of sitting back and waiting.

And yes, the idea that you would be essentially trapped in your own state and facing potential capture, prosecution, felony charges, and loss of medical licenses if you travelled out of state, would itself be more than enough to make sure doctors refuse to send pills to red states.

  • I wouldn’t be so sure of that.

This is very likely going to the Supreme court. And there is a non-zero chance that they will allow states to start enforcing their laws outside of their own borders (of course, they’ll word it in such a way to make sure only Republican states can impose their will on blue states. Once blue states try to impose their own laws, it’ll be viewed upon as retaliation and struck down by the SC because reasons.)

If they manage to get that far (and again, there is a non-zero chance they will), it’s not all that much of a hop, skip, and a jump before it’s perfectly legal for one state to send state troopers to a residence in another state in order to enforce state laws, with the rationale that “criminals cannot simply escape consequences for their crimes by fleeing to a state sympathetic to their cause” or somesuch. (And again, they’ll be sure to make sure that only red states are allowed this luxury.)

And I could very easily see a prosecutor who wants to advance his own legal or political career willing to try this while the entire justice system is extremely MAGA friendly and basically forcing the issue.
