I do. Great idea! That’s actually better than the email because it will account for places I’ve deleted the emails for. Thanks!

“I’m from Toronto but proud to be from somewhere I’ve scarcely been!”
I’ve read all the comments here and I’ve concluded that we don’t really have an effective way for dealing with this problem, although we all recognise the problem.
One of the problems with the way federation currently works is if I block US politics on one instance, I still get it en masse from other instances.
Before activity pub, all that duplication of threads would’ve been handled by moderators merging them together. Actually, it wouldn’t even have been so necessary since userscan see the existing thread and just post underneath that.
When blocking a community, we really need a check box to allow us to block the same community on all instances.
That makes me wonder if the fediverse is disadvantaged by SEO. Each instance is likely “just” a domain to search engines.
Like yourself, SMS and phone calls. My bank app also handles authentication of online purchases a bit better with notifications enabled. Everything else is disabled.
On desktop I have notifications for email as well as those mentioned above.
The problems with ARM is their involvement with Israel.
We can go further
Social net.
Two words everyone understands. Also the two ideas that make the fediverse what it is.
kbinners probably don’t have a working instance to see our convo
Things can be good from the consumption side. But the developers are often working long extra hours to make that happen. If we want to escape capitalism ever, we need to think of the human element.
I would love to see a non-proprietary desktop music player. Just something simple that I can listen to my MP3s with. Audacity is great, but it’s a PITA when it comes to casual listening.
/s. As sbv Said in another comment, I think it’s best to join an existing project. Loops has potential to rival TikTok but it’s still not in a state I would use.
Edit: I could have placed the /s a bit better to flag my surreal sense of humour. I was joking about FOSS lacking a desktop music player, because there seem to be hundreds of them. I use Audacity for editing, not listening to mp3s :)
Because it isn’t perfect, but it’s good enough and my favourite now. And they are the only consumer tech company I know of having such a positive impact on the environment worldwide.
Interesting, thanks for posting about this. For a plugin that’s in it’s infancy (only a couple of days old), it’s already worth trying.
At the moment it requires you to choose your country and then offers alternatives based in your country. So for example when I visit Amazon, it recommends a national bookshop here in Ireland. That’s a great recommendation if I’m looking for books, but I wasn’t.
Hopefully it will become more context sensitive in time and make recommendations based on what item I’m looking at. If I’m looking at a load carrier / trolley, I’d like to get a recommendation for Athlon in Germany, for example. I’ll contact the developers about that.
But the main reason I’d use something like this is to simply stop lining the pockets of billionaires, so I’d like to find the smallest supplier/retailer possible. Maybe I need a different extension.
Edit: They can be contacted on codeberg repo here: https://codeberg.org/K-Robin/GoEuropean
It’s my favourite, but your license must be open source to use it.
Clozemaster is worth listing too https://www.clozemaster.com/l/fin-eng
Nemo, Ling, LingQ (no relation)& Plimseur are other options.
I had stopped using it for the same reason. I think this new initiative is a way to make it easier, but as you say, consistency is the other issue.
But doesn’t Leta use Bing as it’s backend also?
It seems like a good alternative so some of the most popular engines. I think I’ll stick with Ecosia, since on top of being EU based, they also make the world a better place.
Wow. That’s the best idea I’ve ever heard. I wish I thought of that sooner, thank you!
