  • Win or lose, taking the bet at all is a sin, and Johnny aknowleges this in the song. Plenty of protestants (the target audience) see this as reason enough to go to hell.

Now you could argue about forgiveness or confession or whatever the fuck but the stage has been set for Johnny to go to hell even though he won.

“Here’s your fiddle. See you in 80 years”.

I think its a cautionary tale about using evil even when you think you’re good and right. The devil doesnt play fair, and always wins.

  • You know it really bothers me that Train obsession is such a hallmark trait of Autism because I was (and still am a little bit) completely obsessed with trains. I had a model train layout, I had train wallpaper, I asked for train things for my birthday, all I ever talked about was all train all the time and not one single adult was ever like “hey maybe this kid who is struggling in school and has no friends and is obsessed with trains is a bit on the spectrum?”.

I turned out more or less fine but I often wonder how much pain and suffering could have been avoided, or at least contextualized, if even one adult in my life was like, “hey wait this isn’t normal for a 10 year old”.

  • Meh. I just wish XML was easier to parse. I have to shuttle a lot of XML data back and forth. As far as I can tell, the only way to query the data is to download a whole engine to run a special query language, and that doesn’t really integrate into any of my workflows. JSON retains the hierarchy and is trivially parsed in almost any programming language. I bet a JSON file containing the exact same data would be much smaller also, since you don’t list each tag twice.
