My friends are going there in June. They had booked the trip before Trump was even elected They have little kids and look as Aryan as it gets so they should be fine. But honestly in their place I would still seriously consider cancelling.

My library offers art! Like, original art pieces (paintings and sculptures) by local artists which you can borrow for up to three months.
I’m referencing the QAnon conspiracy theories. Sometime during Trump’s first presidency the Qtips believed that thousands of children were being held and trafficked in underground tunnels (a spin-off of Pizzagate), and Trump was about to free them momentarily. Which… yeah, the meme says the rest.
…ich, wenn ich immer noch Mitglied der SPD bin, das Gefühl von Enttäuschung liebe.
Sudan, definitely. (And I’ve visited well over 50 countries.)
2 points. I did technically “use” my dad’s old typewriter once or twice, but only to check it out/play with it, not to actually write something. Have never paid by cheque. Have done all the others.
I honestly, literally believe that Trump still doesn’t know what a tariff is.
I do some volunteer work in a non-profit that operates globally. We hold an annual team meetup in changing locations. In the past few years we did Canada and several European cities. For a while now, the plan had been to hold 2025’s meetup in the US as we have several team members from there. But as it stands, we’ll choose a different location because too many team members have said they’re not comfortable travelling to the US under the current administration.
We’re talking some 20-30 people not travelling to the US and spending money there. Obviously a small number but as you said, it adds up.
Fun fact, that word is etymologically related to “placenta”.
Calvin & Hobbes still makes me laugh out loud after all these years.
I still can’t fathom that the US has a guy who eats roadkill and had a brainworm - the two of which might be connected - as their secretary of health.
I mean I guess there’s a non-negligible chance of her hitting a double fault…
Isn’t this also mostly about shipping routed which are expected to open up more and more due to climate change?
Very nicely put. This describes my own faith almost to a T.
I remember this from back then. The cool thing is, it looks like the author has been keeping it updated!
Friendly reminder that Trump refused to condemn a group of white supremacists chanting “Jews will not replace us”.
He is not on your side. And, if history is any indication, allowing government to control speech and expression by fascist means is much more dangerous to Jews than any group of student protesters could ever be.
I’m convinced these events will permanently change the role of the US in the world. I checked all of Germany’s major newspapers (progressive and conservative) and they all agree that Europe can’t rely on the US anymore and will have to fend for itself and/or find new partners. I don’t doubt it’s the same in other major European countries. This might well be the start of the end of US hegemony. I sure hope that whatever new world order we move into isn’t worse than the one we had, and that the changes go over without additional war.
Yes, but mostly PoC so far, from what I read.
