Don’t they know just because you’ve banned a word, doesn’t mean that the item or thing automatically poofs out of existence?

This is that easy. There’s a few words I’d love to ban. How about Elmo? And Turd

This is pretty dumb even by trump standards. You would think the right of all people would know that trying to ban terms will just result in new euphemisms and jargon being created.

Most of the research caught up is probably going to be using the terms incidentally (for instance, a drug study that happens to mention participants were AMAB) and this will cause a bunch of paperwork and probably just end up being changed to something like “gametically” or “chromosomally”.

Think even more general than that. Ignore identity/gender/sexuality issues for a moment. How do you write a research article about the negative effects of a drug on pregnancy without using the word pregnant? About complications during a “normal pregnancy”(I’m using their word, not mine - please don’t take offense - I hope you see where I’m going)? If you can’t mention gender or pregnancy, even when it’s about cis people, you suddenly can’t do a whole hell of a lot of research.

The right thinks that if they clamp down hard enough that it will just go away, much like LGBTQ people were forced to mask and hide themselves like they had to back in the day, otherwise they ended up like Matthew Shepard. I don’t know that they even consider the euphemism treadmill aspect of things, they just don’t want these people to feel like they can be themselves and feel safe.

An attack on science is an attack on us all. They are trying to erase science they dont agree with. This is Christian fascism - welcome to giliad.

Anyone in the US please organise - join an anti religious influence group, protest, disobey. You must fight back.

Science doesn’t need politics to tell what is what, it’s science who should be telling politics what is what. Ofcourse politics can block science, e.g. this article.

I’m so fucking scared. They’ve inhibited our movement by fucking with passports, they’ve defined us as dishonest and dishonorable in the EO kick us out of the military, they’ve codified the notion that our gender identity constitutes sexual deviance and poses a threat to children, they’ve attacked proven life-saving care, with a focus on children and an impact on adults.

and now they’re trying to book-burn us out of existence.

this is systematic dehumanization, the track record of which is grim.

There’s just straight up not enough of us to do this on our own.

If people don’t start standing up for us, we’re fucked.

All people need is a focus for resistance, a group or a leader to join. Most people are disgusted by this, and despite the election result I still believe most people would rather see trans people happy than suffering. And as the visibility of trans people increases, more and more cis people have been discovering that they know and care about trans people in their own lives. That’s why the hateful fringe feels it’s so urgent to shut trans rights down. They know they have to push people back into fear and silence before transphobia becomes uncommon. And they know they have to silence people talking about these matters to make organized resistance possible. But the quiet is largely people not knowing how to connect and resist, not a lack of desire to resist. It’s time for organized resistance and the first movement that gets going will find many supporters.

They’re refusing to issue passports to people who have had their gender marker legally changed, and some bigoted employees have been illegally confiscating documents (like birth certificates and social security cards) from those who try anyways.

So if your drivers license gender marker doesn’t match your birth certificate, they’ll refuse to issue the passport, and there’s a non-zero chance that the person behind the desk will steal both when you try to apply. So now you don’t have a passport and you need to go through the arduous process of getting all new ID paperwork just to prove who you are.

From my sister about my 17y.o. trans niece: “Unfortunately, [niece] had a children’s passport (expired now), so she’s in the group who would not be able to get a passport anymore because her birth certificate and social security don’t currently match each other and don’t match her passport records.”

They are stealing the documents of trans people who go to get new documents including passports, leaving them without identifying paperwork (and identified by the authorities by the paperwork they lost) in a time where that is very convenient for the people in power, and threatening them with arrest if they ask for them back. In addition to what has been said already

non-binary people had been getting “X“ instead of M or F on their passport. The Trump administration will no longer allow those passports to be issued

Seems to be more than that, one person was outright refused any passport, even male, and were threatened with arrest if they asked any more questions. All paperwork (birth certificate etc) was kept by the office in LA.

They confiscated it, wouldn’t give it back and were threatening to arrest her. There are also reports of trans people that were renewing their passports by mail and told they wouldn’t be getting them back.

Maybe it’s just the three trans people I know that are trying to leave the country right now, my brother’s family, and a bunch of family friends that come from a family of pilots and flight attendants.

I’m sure they are the only people having trouble in the whole country. Must be an isolated incident. … …

They are all located out west and in the Midwest, so maybe it’s just the Chicago office and the website. I don’t know if anybody has tried doing it through mail correspondence yet but that takes a little bit more time anyway.

That’s completely different than, “The entire passport office is shut right now.”. You were either being unnecessarily hyperbolic, or intentionally spreading misinformation. Neither helps in situations like this.

There have been multiple people in local groups that have reported this happening to them this week. Going to get documentation updated, sent home without anything - not even documentation with natal sex. Local queer org put out an advisory - reached out to all shrinks that work with queer people.

    Oh look…

The US is embedding a totalitarian theonomic government. A new, (soon to be) militarized, hierarchy regime of religious fanaticism and newly created social classes, in which DEI is being brutally subjugated.

    I swear I’ve seen this show before…
