Instead, their families are spending as much as $3,000 on electric bicycles, the battery-powered vehicles that offer the convenience of traditional bikes without the sweat or strain that comes with unassisted pedaling.

Wow, as much as $3000? As opposed to the comparably affordable price of a car.
As much as? Oh no, the prices go much higher than that.
As someone who has lustfully gazed at one too many tandem, cargo ebikes the prices go WAAAAYY higher. :)

Yeah unless it’s a junker, price is still significantly better. At least in the US. Not to mention insurance and gas.
